Wear Bright Colours:

Fashion Trends

Celebrity Stylist Zoe Lem teaches you how to wear bright colours for spring/summer.

Step 1: Colour head to toe

This is a key trend for spring/summer and you need to know which colours work together.

Be careful - if you choose to wear one colour make sure it suits you. If red and pink suit you this can be good for summer as long as you pull in accessories and shoes that work. Don't wear anything too long so you still have the nudeness of the leg showing bringing in a different tone.

If you have red pigment in your skin tone red and pink is not a great colour for you.

If you have yellow and orange pigment in your skin tone you should avoid yellow and orange.

Purple is a great colour as it has blue pigment which is very neutralising and suits most skin tones.

Step 2: Splash of colour

If you feel more comfortable sticking with a dark or simple core outfit but want to add a splash of colour around the face this lifts the eyes and skin tone. Go for a core top and trousers or skirt in one colour and add colour with a cardigan or scarf.

Step 3: Colour balance

Think of yourself as a painting - you need to see the whole picture. If you're wearing a bright shoe, you need to bring out the colour somewhere else. If you're wearing a bright top you don't want two outfits stuck together so bring out the balance down below. Keep the balance with shoes and accessories.

Step 4: Coloured Accessories

Coloured accessories are great for adding colour to a simple outfit. They're also great for transitional from work to evening. Be careful of what colours are in your face although this a cheap and easy way to trial colours if you're not sure.

If you're wearing coloured shoes make sure your accessories are within that palette of colours. You can't go for a blue bag with red shoes - it won't work.

Step 5: Colour combinations

Think about tones. Blues, greens and purples work well together as they all have a blue pigment in them.

Reds, oranges and pinks are great as they all have that warmness linking them together.
