Dragonnnnnnn:

Blessed Is The Season

Hamilton Wright Mabie (1845-1916), famous American author, essayist, and critic wrote this:  "Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love."
He was, of course, referring to Christmastime.  The quote, although simple, is an enigma worth unraveling.

The Beatitudes, preached by Jesus in the Sermon on the
Mount, appear to be Mabie's model for placing spiritual importance upon this season.  "Blessed is the season..." makes a firm
statement about the Christmas season being holy.  It draws the reader into the entire quote with a penchant for soul searching and
reverence.

Mabie continues by stating that this is the "season which engages the whole world", which
places even more focus on the powerful effect that Christmas has on
peoples of all faiths, in every corner of the globe, during each year of
celebration.  Whomever you are, wherever you are, whatever you are
doing, you will engage, in some way, with others during this season.  You will see the religious, as well as the secular, symbols of Christmas.  You will hear the songs
and the advertisements on the radio or in the mall.  You will enjoy the foods at festivities; smell evergreens and candy canes wherever you go.  If you are of this world, you
will experience some effect of Christmas during this blessed
season of the year.

The quote culminates with the booming dichotomy of "in a conspiracy of love."  The word conspiracy
implies something secret, unlawful; something being plotted.  So imagine people everywhere secretly plotting ways to show love to those around
them; or quietly enjoying the jolliness of the season, even if they are
not believers in the birth of Christ on Christmas Day.  Each is a
player in the conspiracy of goodness, kindness, joy and love at this glorious time of the year.  A world plotting to share, receive, or give love in some fashion at Christmastime?  Heartwarming, if not holy.

"Blessed is the season which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love."
Hamilton Wright Mabie understood the magnitude of the spectacular Event which we celebrate during this
Season.  His words are simple, yet profound.  And so it is with Christmas.

Peace on Earth.  Good will to mankind.  Blessed is the season.

World Animals by Dan Fleming

Word Animals are unique typographical designs best described as images of animals created using the letters in their name. The identity is comprised of a hand written mark and a broad colour palette that matches the visual style of the “word animals” designs. Designed by Manchester based designer Dan Fleming, these beautifully drawn designs bond together animal structure and typographic structure and present a complete and professional final outcome. You can check out the full World Animal series at the website linked here.

Hanger Chair Philippe Malouin:

“Occasional furniture”. The name should be self explanatory, but it is somewhat incorrect in most cases. These pieces tend to lie around the house, stacked in a corner, or in an unused room. When space is an issue, as is the case for most European city dwellers, an object such as a folding chair will clutter up the precious available space.
The Hanger Chair is a folding chair based on one of the ultimate storage systems: the modest hanger. It allows us to store clothes in an orderly fashion. Most houses or flats are equipped with a wardrobe to receive the object.
By morphing the function of the hanger with that of the folding chair, a new hybrid is born: a Hanger Chair that has a function, even when not in use, to store our clothes in an orderly fashion.

Aircraft Inspired Seating Into The Living Room:

Aircraft Inspired Seating Into The Living Room
Aircrafts are not typically designed for maximum comfort, more so to maximise capacity and squeeze as many passengers in as possible. Business class however is a different story, allowing those able to afford the prices to a more relaxing and comfortable experience.

Basing household furniture on airline seats may sound rather odd, since in your home you are looking for ultimate comfort. This seat comes in at £1,300, and we can't help but think that airline seats should be reserved for time spent in the air, and not time spent trying to relax in your own home. The chair does however look the part, and has a basic reclining mechanism extending a little further than the airborne counterpart.

Designed by Jeffret Bernett, the chair does look impressive in its own right, but we'd rather separate flight chairs from home seating. You don't want to be sitting watching TV and then expecting your house to take-off into the sky.

Invention of the Telephone:

TelephoneTelephone
One of the most important and revolutionary inventions which impacts greatly upon modern day communication is the invention of the telephone. The idea behind the telephone is simple, a system which converts sound into a series of electrical impulses of differing frequencies, and then reverses this procedure to re-create the sound, typically a human voice. Sounds simple enough, but it took many years and an array of different inventors to finally succeed with the technology.

As early as 1831, Michael Faraday proved that vibrations of metal could be converted into electrical impulses. This was the basic principle of the telephone, but no one made use of such technology until 1861, when German inventor, Johann Reis, successfully built an apparatus that converted sound to electricity and back again. The apparatus had many flaws, incapable of transmitting many frequencies and therefore was never fully developed.

This idea was elaborated on by two men in the United States, who simultaneously began experimenting and creating what would be known as the telephone. Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell (a Scottish inventor), both worked hard to produce the equipment, and amazingly both filed for a patent within hours of one another, Bell beating his rival by merely two hours on February 14th, 1876.

Despite Gray building the initial diaphragm / electromagnetic receiver two years prior, he was unable to produce a working version of his transmitter until after Bell. Bell worked effortlessly, whereas Gray became disheartened by the exhausting invention process.

The first comprehensible telephone conversation was said to have taken place between Bell and his assistant, who was sitting in another room. Bell said, "Come here, Watson, I want you" which Watson successfully heard via the receiver and the invention of the telephone was complete. The Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) was soon established and grew to be the largest telephone company in existence.

The following year, in 1877, the first telephone system was put in place in Hartford, Connecticut, whilst the first exchange which linked two cities, was established between both Boston and New York in 1883. London hosted the first exchange put into practice outside the United States in 1879. The system however proved time consuming, as the exchange was controlled by a large switchboard with a number of operators working manually to divert the calls.

The first automatic exchange was patented by Almon Strowger in 1891 and instilled in 1892, although manual switchboards remained in place until the mid-twentieth century. In 1889, William Gray invented the coin operated telephone, whereas the first rotary dial telephone was produced by Frenchman, Antoine Barnay, in 1923.

The Bell Telephone Company later developed the mobile telephone which was used by New York police cars in 1924. The first commercial mobile service was created in 1946, in St Louis, Missouri but it did not become commonplace until a following four decades.

Touch tone systems, which used sound tones rather than electrical pulses, were installed in 1941, however the need for central switching made the idea too expensive, yet Bell's company were curious as to the potential of touch tone employment. As electrical circuitry prices fell, the touch tone systems could finally be deployed in common households, which occurred in 1962.

AT&T began experimentation with cells within mobile technology, primarily based on hexagonal geographical regions. As the caller moved from one cell to another, the communication link would remain intact, by automatically switching to the new cell without any form of disruption. This foundation for mobile phone technology was put into place in the United States in 1983.

The invention of the telephone is a hot topic within the inventor circle, and the recognised inventor is somewhat sketchy. Many believe it to be Alexander Graham Bell, whereas others believe it to be Antonio Meucci, Philip Reis or Elisha Gray.

What are invention patents?

So what exactly is a patent? A patent is a legal right which offers the patentee a monopoly to manufacture, utilise or sell their own invention, legally, over a specific amount of time. A patent is accepted and issued in exchange for the invention specifics.

Patents are not mandatory; however it is important to stress the importance of engaging in the patent process. Once details enter the public domain regarding the invention, application for a patent becomes invalid. This can, in some cases, allow another person to steal your idea and make profit upon it whilst suffering no legal implications.

Patents can last up to a maximum of 20 years. After this time elapses, a renewal fee is required to keep the patent alive. Failure to renew can prompt someone to steal the idea, legally, provided there are no further existing intellectual property rights for the invention.

The patent office does not ensure that inventions are copied by others; this is explicitly down to the owner's discretion. Patents cannot be re-registered, even by the initial owner, since the details already exist in the public domain since all patents can be accessed via a public patent library containing each patent currently filed.

How to patent an idea

The primary requisite for invention application is that the invention must be new, meaning that no information about the idea should have been distributed into the public domain, prior to application. It is also useful to browse existing patents to look for potential replicates of your idea or distinct similarities. British applicants are directed towards the Patent Office where official forms, necessary fees and a succinct description of the invention are all submitted.

Patent Agents exist, who take care of this process on the inventor's behalf, for an arranged fee. The patent agent discusses and negotiates with the Patent Office and devises a report on your invention idea to be presented to the Office. Employing an agent is recommended by many in this field as they can make or break an application's success. A patent agent also advises different protection rights which would be suitable for the idea and bring the full potential of the invention to fruition.

How much does a patent cost?

In general, a successful campaign, with patent granted, will cost £200 or more. A patent agent on the other hand, can cost in excess of £1000 for a basic application. This may sound expensive, but failure to employ such an agent increases the likelihood of an application denial, rendering your idea useless, furthermore profitless.

Renewal fees are mandatory to extend the length of the patent, after the initial 20 year period.

Patent Searching

As mentioned briefly, each and every invention filed can be searched and viewed. The International Patent Classification (IPC) spans 70 countries in total simplifying searching methods and maintaining a central patent information repository. Patents can be electronically searched via a database or manually searched in a paper-based fashion.

Patent Infringement

It is the owner's responsibility to ensure that no process or product which they are manufacturing is conflicting with a currently registered patent. Understanding what competitors are patenting can be a valuable source of information and helpful to avoid patent infringement.

Some patents cover only a specific country or region, so inventions can be copied in areas where the patent does not extend to. For example, in the UK, after a 12 month review period, a patent can be extended to include other countries, although laws which govern patents fluctuate for each different country. Also, an invention may be used, under some circumstances, for research purposes but expressed written consent is required to proceed with this method of appeal.
